HATE SPEECH AND THE ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY CONFERENCE IN FRAME OF THE ANNUAL MEETING UNDER NGO PROGRAMME IN BULGARIA

 

On 12.07.2016 in Sofia was held International conference “Hate Speech and the Role of Civil Society – Reflections on Achieved Results and Communicating Lessons Learned” organized by “Open Society Institute” in cooperation with “Workshop for Civic Initiatives” Foundation. The event was organized within the annual meeting of the Bulgarian NGO Programme under the EEA Financial Mechanism and included data from the last conducted omnibus public opinion survey by “Open Society Institute” about the proliferation of hate speech. Participants in the conference: h.e. Tove Bruvik Westberg, Ambassador of Norway to Romania and Moldova and in process of accreditation for ambassador for Bulgaria, Ms. Maya Manolova – Ombudsmann on Republic of Bulgaria, European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), National Council for Journalism Ethics, Electronic Media Council, representatives from different civic organizations and many others. 

Projects, realized in frame of NGO Programme were presented – by Antoni Georgiev, chairman of “Free speech international” Foundation, Maria Alkalai, “The Infinite Opportunities” Association, Zvezda Vankova “Multi Kulti Colective”, Tsveta Nenova, “European spaces 21” Association – Ruse, which presented the project “Anguish and Salvation. The Remembrance of the Jewish Communities – a Guarantee against Hatred in Society”.
