OPENING PRESS CONFERENCE UNDER THE PROJECT FOR INCREASING THE CAPACITY OF THE JUDICIARY

Opening press conference under the project “Increasing the capacity of the judiciary and training on the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms at the National Institute of Justice” was held today in Sofia.

The National Institute of Justice is implementing the project “Increasing the capacity of the judiciary and training on the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms at the National Institute of Justice”, financed under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009-2014.

The Project is targeted at magistrates, court clerks and legal professionals and has the objectives to achieve a common understanding within the judiciary on the application of the provisions of the Convention, to increase their capacity and competence. It is also aimed at applying modern technologies for training of Bulgarian magistrates and establishing of a sustainable information exchange network in the area of human rights.

The project has the duration of 24 months. Specific project activities include a series of centralized and regional trainings, preceded by train-the-trainer seminars, practical workshops on humanitarian law, study visits to European institutions, including the Grand Chamber of EHCR and the Norwegian Court Administration, establishing an annual justice and human rights forum as a sustainable platform for exchanging information between stakeholders in the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
